BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream Review

Welcome back, Jury!

In today's post we will be discussing an underrated product on the market. It comes from BareMinerals, which is a brand that is often overlooked. I'm guilty of it! I don't really stop by the BareMinerals section in any cosmetic store, which is why this product is a hidden gem of the makeup world.

Let's talk a little about my skin background. I have very normal skin that can get pretty dry in the winter months, which are quickly approaching. *SIDE NOTE: It's currently 50 degrees in Vegas right now?!*

Because my skin can get dry and flaky, this gel cream formula is a win - IF I moisturize thoroughly before hand. I think this formula would be great for all skin types because it's hydrating yet lightweight on the skin.

PACKAGING

First, we'll discuss the packaging. The product comes in the usual BareMinerals unicarton. It's a sleek black box with the shade swatched down the side. I find that the color of the swatch on the box is not the exact color of the tinted moisturizer, but it's close enough.

The product comes in a taupe squeeze tube with a twist-off cap. The lid is very secure and prevents leaking. I appreciate twist-off caps because they don't just pop off in your makeup bag, like many of my other complexion products.

PRODUCT

The BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream has quickly become one of my favorite base products. It comes with 1.18 fluid oz of product and has broad spectrum SPF 30. I have it in the shade 08 Spice, which Ulta describes as tan warm with golden undertones.

This has quickly become a staple in my everyday makeup routine because of how lightweight it is! It feels like skin and looks like skin! I used to be obsessed with complete matte foundations like the Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation. Those days are long gone. I need something that'll add moisture to my skin but will still be enough coverage.

I would say this product offers medium coverage at best, so some days I do have to add a little extra concealer, but it never looks cakey, so it's a total win for me. I think it's a buildable formula, however I would only apply additional product to problem areas, not the entire face since it's not to be considered a foundation.

BareMinerals makes several claims about this product, so I'll go down the list and give you my opinion on whether it checks the box, or not!

CLAIMS

  • "Skin is kept hydrated for 12 hours after application."
    • I don't know if its the specifically the product keeping my skin hydrated or if its the skincare products I'm using beforehand. Its hard for me to say if this claim is true or not, but I'm leaning towards false, just because I don't have enough personal evidence to approve this claim.
  • "Boosts skin's hydration by 215% in just 1 week."
    • This is another one that I'm unsure of. How can I tell how much 215% is? I honestly find these types of claims to be hilarious. I would say this is false, just because I don't understand how consumers are supposed to measure 215% of skin hydration.
  • "100% of people saw improvement in their skin texture in just 1 week."
    • I can say this statement is true. My skin is definitely more plump and supple after using this product. I think it's because of its hydration properties.
  • "98% naturally derived ingredients."
    • After reviewing the ingredients, I can verify that this claim is true.
  • "Buildable, sheer to medium coverage."
    • Like I previously stated, you can get medium coverage at best with this product. So I would say this statement is true.
  • "Naturally radiant finish for a healthy-looking glow."
    • I'd say the finish is more satin than radiant. When applied, there is a glow. But once it has dried down it's more of a satin finish.

This product is available in 20 different shades, but since it's a tinted moisturizer, one shade can fit a few different skin tones. This product is also oil-free, vegan, dermatologist-tested, hypoallergenic, and comedogenic so it won't clog your pretty little pores.

PRICE

The BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream retails for $33 (USD). I feel that it's a reasonable price for the brand since it's considered to be more on the prestige end. You get more product than a normal foundation (usually 1 fluid oz) so that can attribute to the price, too.

Most high-end foundations range anywhere from $40-$60 (USD), so this is pretty reasonable, in my opinion.

VERDICT
(☆☆☆☆☆)

Jury... the verdict is in!! I absolutely adore this tinted moisturizer. I can tell I really like something when I continue to use it - without switching to anything else! I love that its perfect for everyday wear and isn't heavy in the slightest. The shade I have works perfectly with my skin tone and makes me feel like I'm a natural beauty. What more could I ask for?!
